3,000-year-old honey found in Egyptian tombs was still perfectly edible
🤷 This changes nothingFact Battle
Honey is one of the only foods that truly never expires. Archaeologists excavating Egyptian tombs have found sealed honey pots over 3,000 years old that were still edible and untouched by bacteria. Honey's low moisture content (below 17%) and high acidity create an environment where bacteria and microorganisms literally cannot survive. It also contains hydrogen peroxide as a natural preservative.
Why this is surprising
We live in a world where most food expires within days, so a food that lasts millennia seems physically impossible.
